The Digital Artist’s “The People’s Choice World Art 2001 Contest” attracted 25 artists from a wide variety of backgrounds who work in an even wider variety of mediums. During the month of April visitors to the site were able to vote for the work of their choice in five categories. There was a grand prize of two years gallery sales worth $240.00 for the work with the most votes overall and one year’s gallery sales as first prize in each category. Grand Prize Winner- 2 years sales gallery membership “Black Queen” (sculpture) by Alexandre Kapran, Canada Kapran immigrated to Canada from Russia in 1990.He specializes in creating one-of-a-kind objects by engraving, stone cutting, flame working, sand blasting and metal smithing. “Untitled” (photograph) by Peter Finger, USA Born in Upstate New York Peter has been painting and creating images for over thirty years. “Untitled” (drawing) by Jen Longshaw, New Zealand Born in New Zealand Jen is a largely self-taught artist who works in acrylic, watercolor, and pen and ink. She paints animal and floral subjects in 2D and “in the round” on rocks. “Creation of Adam” (painting) by Hank Rondina, USA Born in the Bronx the artist currently uses watercolor, silkscreen ink and mixed media. He uses both standard and digital photos in his artwork. “January” (digital art) by Sandy Strunk, USA Residing in Virginia, USA the artist works in clay, bronze, silver, acrylics, oils, silkscreen, paper, enamel, beads and needlepoint although they now specialise in digital art.
