Following is a small excerpt from my most recent demo "Hawaiian Geese
and Goslings"
With the under layers complete and dry I then transfer my original drawings' feather details back over the top. It is then quite a simple task to paint the feathers following my pencil guidelines, with some confidence (it took two layers to get the light areas to the correct colour). Further layers will be painted on top until I am satisfied with the appearance.

Here is a detail of the adults wing. My main goal for the under-layers
was to create the form of the body and wing without concentrating on the
feather details (these will come later). By getting the form correct and
solid looking the feather details will really bring the area to life when
painted on top.
Most of the final feather detailing was performed wet into wet, this
allowed me to subtly blend one area into another. Here you can see that
the adult is now beginning to look quite realistic and only a few touches
here and there will be required towards the end of the painting to really
bring it all together.
